"Description of Elysium,"
from
Permit Me Voyage... 1934

Sure on this shining night
Of starmade shadows round,
Kindness must watch for me
This side the ground.

The late year lies down the north
All is healed, all is health.
High summer holds the earth.
Hearts all whole

Sure on this shining night
I weep for wonder wand'ring far
alone
Of shadows on the stars.

Leann,
Connie Cook passed away a couple years ago; she and I
had become good friends through our poetry.  (See my AD
poem "Connie Jean and Connie Marie.")  Later, her husband
encouraged me to continue some of her work, which
was to offer free poems in racks placed in business-places.
He wanted her poems to continue to be used.  He also gave
me the privilege of giving permission to those who ask to use
Connie Cook's poetry.
Keep up your good work; this is truly a lovely site!
Sincerely,
Connie Faust

Because I Love You
by Connie Hinnen Cook
Tuesday, October 01, 2002

Because I love You
I'll apologize
Though anger in me burn,
I'll tell someone "I'm sorry"...
Though it is not my turn;
I'll speak with love and kindness,
Though feelings in me churn...
I'll set my pride aside
Because I love You.

Because I love You
I'll forgive someone
When they have done me wrong,
I'll not give in to grudges...
I'll keep my spirit strong;
And though they turn their back on me,
I'll gladly suffer long...
I'll set my rights aside
Because I love You.

Because I love You,
Keep my focus staid
To always choose Your pace,
To put no one above You...
To keep You in first place;
To set Your *hands* aside, Lord God,
And seek Your Holy *Face*...
Hold me beneath Your wings
Because I love You.

--Connie

"Keep me as the apple of Your eye;
hide me in the shadow of Your wings..."

Lover’s Wishing Well
By Felix L. Perry

There’s an old stone well in the highlands
Made of just wood, mortar and stone
Indeed it’s rumored to be built by the fairies
And it is said not to go there alone

No one can really recall who owns it
Or who keeps it in such good repair
Locals say it’ll grant you your wish
If some silver you freely will spare

A sign says one wish for a quarter
But only if you can truly believe
In magic of the wee one’s traditions
If not then no cash need you leave

Dropped a silver dollar without thinking
I wished for someone to love for all time
I guess I must be a true believer
For soon I found you, true love, to call mine…
Body Blue
by Leann Marshall

I wrote this poem many years ago as a token of
appreciation to all who care about our environment. It
seems a fitting time to bring it out again.

Body Blue
With liquid grace
Wears jewels of Sun and Moon
Upon her face
And lifts her
Soul
Her burning lover Earth
To embrace;

Beautiful, Body Blue
Her children sing the songs of
Her spirit name
And dance with graceful joy
A secret, Forever game.

And when  ragged cry
Of gull
Brings word of every silent Death
She draws them
Back to her,

And carves with restless hands
Upon the sands
To mourn in lonely echo
Her own Immortal voice.
Thanks for visiting Sketch Notes, the
seasonal and creative page of my
personal Website:

I enjoy reading and writing (check out
my two fiction novels,
The Starfish
People and The Rendering.)

I created Sketch Notes as a fun way to
express myself poetically, but I love to
feature other writer's work with a
link back to their own Websites.
Links to Sketch Notes archives are at
right.

My philosophy as quoted by Johann
Wolfgang von Goethe:
"One ought, every day at least, to hear a
little song, read a good poem, see a fine
picture, and, if it were possible, to speak
a few reasonable words.”
